Statement from Danny McEvoy, President
I wholeheartedly thank Dr Tony Buti (MLA) for accepting our invitation to be Patron of our Club and welcome him to a formal position in our organisation.
Tony’s qualifications show that he is a very high achiever, having studied at a number of world-renowned universities such as The University of Western Australia, Australian National University, The University of Oxford and Yale University. This experience has given Tony a passion for education, and his personal values in serving his community have driven him to want to help all children, regardless of their backgrounds or circumstances, to have educational opportunities that will enable them to meet their potential. These beliefs and values are a perfect match with our Club.
The Board and I look forward to a very productive and happy association.
Statement from Dr Tony Buti (MLA)
It is with great pleasure I accept the role of Patron of the Achievers Club WA, which provides students from low socio-economic backgrounds with free education mentors to assist young people achieve their academic goals and build their confidence.
I very much admire the philosophy of the Achievers program of empowerment, collaboration, perseverance and importantly enjoyment.
Education is power and the Achievers Club endeavours to give each student the confidence to aim high and believe in their power to achieve the best possible future.
Tony attended St Brigid’s Convent and Kingsley Primary School in Armadale, before graduating from Kelmscott Senior High School in 1978 and entering the University of Western Australia to study for a Physical Education Degree. He has completed further studies at The University of Western Australia, Australian National University, The University of Oxford and Yale University, obtaining a Diploma of Education, Bachelor of Laws (Hons), Masters of Industrial Relations and a Doctorate in Law.
Tony has worked as a high school teacher, lawyer, AFL player agent, and legal academic. He has also written a number of books, articles and other publications.
In 2010, Tony was elected as the Member for Armadale in the Parliament of Western Australia. In 2021, he was promoted to the McGowan Ministry and currently holds the following responsibilities: Minster for Finance; Aboriginal Affairs; Racing and Gaming; Citizenship and Multicultural Interests.
Tony has been a strong supporter of the Achievers Club and our Armadale Chapter in particular, strong in his belief that we can help children from disadvantaged backgrounds in the surrounding areas to maximise their potential. This is a challenge our Club is relishing in collaboration with schools, parents, the City of Armadale and, most importantly, students.
