Karen Robinson
Board Member

I started mentoring with the Achiever’s Club in 2023. Not long after joining Achiever’s Club as a mentor, there was an opportunity to join the Board in early 2024. Having fallen in love with the organisation, I felt that my work and previous Board experience meant I could add value to the already extensive expertise in the Board.

A quick summary of my experience:

  • Worked with the Western Australian arm of a global charity to help them go from being the lowest performing team at raising child sponsorship to the highest performing team within 12 months by working on strategy and team culture.

  • Served on the board of WFA, a think tank advising government on women’s issues seeing it go from volunteers only to having a paid Chief Operating Officer plus other paid supporting roles.

  • Was the Managing Director of a consulting firm for 12 years, taking it from a start up to a successful business, winning a scholarship to the Centre for Entrepreneurship at Curtin University because of the business growth

  • Worked with clients across industries and countries in the areas of strategy development, building. organisational capability, and supporting leaders as they wrestle with the challenges of working effectively in today’s rapidly changing world.

  • Hold an MBA and a Post Graduate Certificate in Digital Transformation.

  • Passionate about seeing people flourish regardless of the role I play.

Sharing Danny’s love of Nelson Mandela quotes, one I find particularly inspiring is from the movie ‘Invictus’ where Mandela says to the Captain of the Springbok (the nation’s rugby team who were losing most games at the time) ‘we have to help our people believe that they can become more than they think they can be’.

One of the great privileges of mentoring and being on the Board of the Achiever’s Club is watching students go from having low expectations of themselves to believing and achieving more than they ever imagined. It is something that drives me, the Board and all our volunteers and is what makes it such a great organisation to be a part of.
